Nutritional Coaching

Food and nutrition

Growing research shows that our diet is the number one cause of death, disability, and suffering in the world. With the overabundance of commercial food creation, it has become overprocessed – high in toxicity and low in nourishment – which has many adverse effects on health.

Instead of serving its main purpose of fueling the body and building up new cells and tissues, food has become an obsession. Most of us spend hours focusing on it, breaking it down and compartmentalizing it, overcooking, overprocessing, and worst of all, overconsuming it.

Food is not only a matter of taste. It provides energy to our cells to do their job. It is also a way of communication with the body. It informs the cells, tissues, and organs to function in certain ways. It can heal the body, cause stress and anxiety, or even control it by creating a dependency. What we eat matters and it impacts the way we feel, both physically and emotionally.

Providing the correct nourishment for your body, based on effective and evidence-based strategies, may not only enhance your life, but also create a strong foundation for keeping you in good health while preventing disease.

Nutritional Coaching

Despite rapidly evolving science and the advancements in modern diagnostic technologies, doctors are inundated with patients suffering from lifestyle disease. The current healthcare models are unable to serve patients adequately. Doctors no longer have the time or appropriate skills to evaluate and address a patient’s nutritional status, lifestyle, and habits. They evaluate and address the patient’s complaint by ordering tests or prescribing medications to alleviate symptoms; they are not actually addressing the potential deeper causes for those symptoms, which might be rooted in their diet and overall lifestyle.

The modern world is teeming with health-related information, which often is misleading and contradictory. It becomes overwhelming to know where to start or how to make a change, let alone a sustainable change. A person might know that eating broccoli is more nutritional than eating chips, but knowledge does not equate to behavior change.

As nutrition lies at the cornerstone for good health and vitality, it’s only one component for approaching good health. Our nutritional coaching programs support a person on the way to discovering his/her own unique “lifestyle” formula and most importantly, integrating it into his/her life.

What to expect from Nutritional Coaching with us?

Take a deep breath in and relax. It’s not about pure calorie counting, diet restriction protocols, or weight-inclusive approach. It’s a journey to reestablish your relationship with food and better understand the ways it affects you physically and emotionally. This process involves determining the correct fuel for your biotype to help you reach your health goals. It also involves reducing bodily toxicity and inflammation, optimizing the functionality of detoxification organs, providing adequate movement, improving circulation and oxygenation, managing stress and emotions, optimizing sleep, and so much more.

Before the Initial Coaching session

Once you decide to book an appointment, you will be emailed the Welcome Package with a few forms to fill out before your first visit. They include: the Informed coaching consent, Client assessment questionnaire, Food frequency questionnaire, and the Medical release form.

The Initial coaching session

This is where we get to know each other. We’ll go over your intake forms where you can tell us a bit more about yourself and your goals. We’ll start to uncover your past and present relationships with food, your body, and movement. We’ll discuss your “WHYs” – for example, why are you choosing to move away from dieting or embark on this journey to better health and wellbeing? And then, we’ll determine your long-term objectives, needs, and concerns, so we can support you with them during our time together.

Follow up sessions

Follow-ups are where we reflect on what’s happening between sessions and what comes up for you as you gain more awareness and understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about food/lifestyle/habits and your body. During these sessions we will:

  • guide you in identifying the culprits for your health issues and their potential root causes
  • explore the ways they can intersect and affect you physically, mentally, and spiritually
  • recommend various evidence-based strategies to help you move toward your goals while identifying and working through any barriers that come up

At the end of each session, we’ll come up with a plan together of what you’ll work on in the coming weeks. We may also provide you with any other supportive materials that we think may help – such as podcast episodes, blogs, worksheets, and more.

How long should you expect to work with us?

It depends on your body’s current stands, your goals, and the support systems you have in place.

The work of reconnecting with your body, reestablishing life supporting relationships around food, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, and then shifting your behaviors is deep, transformational work that takes time and introspection.

Based on my experience over the years, I’ve noticed that 4-6 weekly or bi-weekly sessions, followed up by monthly maintenance sessions over the period of 6 months, are generally a good start in producing long lasting results for many people.
